Do you like to read but cannot come to the Library?
We will come to you!
Any Red Deer Public Library member can apply for this free service if they reside in the city of Red Deer and are homebound for three months or more due to an illness, poor mobility, or a physical or visual disability.
When you contact the Library, staff will discuss this service with you. If you qualify, you will be asked a number of questions to determine your reading preferences. Based on your preferences, a volunteer will bring library materials to you every three weeks and return any borrowed materials to the Library for you.
Would you like to volunteer with the Homebound Readers Service?
Volunteers receive library orientation and training to assist them in choosing items for their reader(s). Every three weeks volunteers deliver new materials and return items due to the Library.
Because our homebound readers are vulnerable, we require all volunteers to fill out an application, provide references and complete a free criminal record check.
This is a rewarding volunteer experience for adults who want to share their love of reading.
