Red Deer Reads FAQs

What is a community book club?
The goal of a community book club is to get everyone in Red Deer to read and discuss the same book. In this way, we can bring Red Deerians together through a shared reading experience and provide many opportunities for people to connect and have engaging conversations with one another.

How does it work?
After taking submissions from Red Deerians in January and February, we will narrow down our list of potential titles to the Top Five Finalists. We then ask the community to vote on their favorite title. The book with the most votes will be crowned our 2016 Red Deer Reads winning title! Then RDPL and some of our partners worked to get this book into the hands of as many Red Deerians as possible before launching our exciting fall program!

Why should I participate?
To put it simply: free books (we’ll be giving away lots of copies of our winner!), free programs and events, and lots of opportunities to meet new people and connect with them over something that we all enjoy: a great book!

How was the book chosen?
Throughout January and February, Red Deerians nominated books they would like to see chosen for Red Deer Reads. Nominated titles can be found in our catalogue (Part 1 and Part 2). The nominations were narrowed down to our Top Five Finalists, which were:

Fifteen DogsFifteen Dogs by Andre Alexis
