Conversation Number Three - Careful the Tales you Tell
Via Facebook Live
Join the conversation with Matt and his puppet friends, Charlie Cheese
and Chucky Chalk.
"Careful the tales you tell…” From mouth to ear and ear to mouth, racism is taught. An off-colour comment at the dinner table, a joke at work or at school that goes unchallenged. Police violence against one group and not another. An unshakable belief in the rightness of whiteness. From whispers in the dark to shouts on the street, make no mistake, we are living in a time of reckoning.
The belief that we in Central Alberta don’t have an issue with this toxic poison, to believe it is only a big city problem and one we don’t have to concern ourselves with, is a grave error as recent scenes in Red Deer played out on the national stage illustrated. This Hear and Be Heard Community Conversation Number Three will challenge all of us, but it is necessary if our community is to step forward, look honestly at its past, own up to its present, and move into the future with more harmony and better understanding.
Frederic M. Perrin (Canadian First Nations author) wrote: “Teach them that rainbows appear after a storm to remind them that life begins and ends with all colours.”
Hosted by artist and educator, Matt Gould and his puppet friends Charlie Cheese and Chucky Chalk.
Cosponsored by Friends of the Red Deer Public Library and RDPL.
