Can I visit the library in person?

Due to the new restrictions announced by the provincial government, all branches of RDPL are closed to the public until further notice, effective December 12, 2020, at 3 p.m.

Beginning Monday, December 14, all branches will provide CONTACTLESS CURBSIDE PICKUP ONLY. No entry to library facilities will be permitted. Click here for details.

Where can I return library materials?

The book drops at the Downtown and Timberlands Branches are open 24/7, and returns are also accepted at the Dawe Branch during open hours. Please note that the book drop at the Collicutt Centre is closed until further notice.

I returned my books several days ago and they are still on my account. Why?

Returned items are "quarantined" for at least 72 hours before being handled by staff, so they will remain on your account for a few extra days. Although these items may show as overdue, you will not be charged overdue fines, so don't worry! However, if you see anything amiss on your account, feel free to contact us!

How do I sign up for/renew a library card?
You can register for a temporary card online by filling out this form: Red Deer Public Library - Membership Registration Form. You will eventually need to visit a library branch in person in order to upgrade to a full membership by confirming your address and other details, but we will ensure that you can continue to access materials (digitally and/or via curbside pickup) until you are an in-person visit is possible.

I'm trying to access RDPL's digital resources. How do I do this and what is my PIN number?

All of our digital resources are available to Red Deer residents from home with a valid RDPL library card. Check them out at or download the apps from your device's app store.

By default, we set your PIN to the last four digits of your phone number. If that doesn't work, send us an email to and we'll look it up for you!

Please note: If you live outside of Red Deer, you won't be able to access many of our digital resources, including eBooks and eAudiobooks. Please contact Parkland Regional Library at to find out what your regional library has to offer!

Can I borrow materials from other libraries in Alberta?

At this time, no. Effective December 10, 2020, Interlibrary Loan Service throughout the province has been temporarily suspended until further notice. Please use the RDPL library catalogue to find materials to borrow, and stay tuned for further announcements relating to ILL.

Are there any library programs happening?

Until further notice, all in-branch library programs are cancelled, but we have moved some of our programs online. Check out our virtual and take-home program options and follow us on social media (FacebookTwitterInstagramYouTube) for more virtual programming -- we're coming up with creative ways to bring RDPL to you!

Can I use the library’s computers?

All library branches are currently closed to the public, so we are not able to provide computer access at this time.

Are you accepting book donations or selling used books?

Due to new restrictions limiting our service offerings, the Friends' Book Donation Drives and Book Sales have been suspended until further notice. Stay tuned for opportunities to donate or purchase books in the new year.
