Manga in the mezz: Thursdays, May 8 and 22 from 4:00-5:30 in the Waskasoo Room. Discuss your favourite manga, watch anime, share your drawings and meet fellow manga addicts.

Dancing with the librarians - Saturday May 10 from 1:00-5:00 pm in the Snell Auditorium. Show off your moves with an afternoon of Dance Dance Revolution, and see how the librarians can get down. But be prepared for a challenge ... these are no ordinary librarians! Call 755-1146 or email jen@rdpl.org to register.

SFX artist Jon Berezan showed us how to do some truly disgusting oozing cuts and scars with latex, kleenex, makeup and fake blood ... dinner, anyone? Or have you just lost your lunch?

Tim Lasuita told teens a bit about comic book history and even showed them how to make one of their own. See the art installation in the mezz for some original comic book artwork.

What is the mezz*?

For starters it's a space (no, not the final frontier) at Red Deer Public Library for teens to get together and chat, read a book, watch some TV, play a game, surf the net, and more.

But the mezz is more than just a space. There's a lot of cool stuff in the mezz. We've got graphic novels, magazines, CDs, and DVDs, along with a ton of great books for teens of all ages. Plus there are board games, cards, toys, and much more in the mezz.

And what would a space designed for teens be without a lot of awesome technology to go along with it. The mezz features a large screen TV and home theatre sound system, as well as a plasma display for showcasing all kinds of cool entertainment and videos. There's also an Xbox and Playstation 2 that will be made available at certain times throughout the year. Throw in some DVD/CD listening and viewing stations, and you'll never want to leave!

So c'mon in and check out the mezz today - you'll be glad you did!

*the mezz is short for the word mezzanine, which is a fancy architectural term meaning "a partial story between two main stories of a building" (which is where the mezz is located). We figured the mezz sounded a lot cooler, so that's what we called it.
