Red Deer Public Library, in partnership with Telebyte Communications, is proud to launch the RDPL / Telebyte Wireless Network at both the Dawe and Downtown locations. The Wireless Network will be made available at no cost to anyone with a device equipped with wireless networking capabilities, such as a laptop or PDA. The Wireless Network will support both the 802.11 b, and g wireless standards, and will provide users with seamless web access via a web browser.
According to Library Director Dean Frey, “The RDPL / Telebyte Wireless Network is the logical next step to enhancing the library’s public Internet access capabilities. This free service will provide additional network bandwidth to the public at a minimal cost to the Library in terms of infrastructure.”
For Gord Deans, manager of Telebyte Communications, the partnership with RDPL is a great opportunity to showcase wireless technology while providing a higher level of service to the public. “Telebyte has a great relationship working with the Red Deer Public Library and we’re proud to use our technical expertise to help RDPL launch the Wireless Network.”
The RDPL / Telebyte Wireless Network will be officially launched on June 24, 2005 during events to mark the recent awarding of the Canadian Library Association / Information Today Award for Innovation Technology to Red Deer Public Library. We would like to invite the public to join us for the kickoff (make sure to bring your wireless devices so that you can “test drive” the wireless network). |
