When doing arts programming, you will almost always need to purchase supplies, and you may also need to borrow, rent, or purchase equipment. You will also want to consider how to arrange the financial resources for the program.

Supplies
  • Always use the best supplies you can afford. Poor art supplies or musical instruments make for frustrating programming experiences, while good quality materials facilitate participant and instructor satisfaction.
  • Check with your instructor to determine correct amounts, either as a total or per participant. There is nothing more frustrating for everyone than not having enough of something important.
  • You can sometimes negotiate a bulk discount or donation with local stores in exchange for an acknowledgement of their role as a sponsor.

Sponsors, Partners, and Funding

You don't always have to do it all, and certainly not all by yourself. Check out who might be interested in sharing costs, partnering, sponsoring, or funding the event. This might include:

  • local businesses
  • parent groups
  • local service clubs such as Kiwanis, Rotary, etc.
  • local arts organizations or clubs
  • local social services organizations
  • local churches
  • local and provincial organizations such as the Red Deer and District Community Foundation, the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, etc.
