October 18, 2004 is Election Day in Red Deer.
Red Deer Public Library's Election Forum is the location - online and in the real world - where you can find information about the candidates for Mayor, City Council and School Board offices. Red Deer Public Library manages Election Forum. We provide a page for each candidate, but all the information is provided by the candidates themselves. Red Deer Public Library cannot guarantee the accuracy of this information, nor does it endorse any candidate. Updates: this is an archive of the daily updates from October 7, 2004 to Election Day. Return to Election Forum. October 18, 2004 Update Today is Election Day. Please take the time to vote - you can find out where your polling station is located at the City's Election Site . Before you vote, you might want to take one last look at the Candidate Pages, below. Most candidates have provided information about their campaigns for this site. Also, you can read the candidates' responses in our Ask the Candidate feature. You'll find replies from many of the candidates to four thought-provoking questions. Thanks to all the candidates for putting so much time and energy into campaigning. I've enjoyed our email and phone conversations and meetings. Win or lose: keep in touch! - Dean Frey, Director
October 15, 2004 Update It's decision time! As we head into the last weekend of Municipal Election campaigning, voters will have to make their choices from strong slates of candidates. Check out our Candidate Pages, where you will find information on almost all of the people in the running: Mayor , Councillor , Public School Trustee and Catholic School Trustee . We're still adding responses in our Ask the Candidate feature. Here are the replies from candidates to: Question One - Question Two - Question Three - Bonus Question . For those candidates who haven't had time to answer all the questions: keep them coming. I will try to post the last of the replies this weekend. October 14, 2004 Update There are two Live Election Forums tonight, Thursday, October 14. The first is a Councillor Forum at Margaret Parsons Theatre at Red Deer College, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. This is sponsored by Red Deer College and the RDC Student's Association/Political Science Society. Then, at 7 p.m. in the Snell Auditorium, here in the Downtown Branch of RDPL, 4818-49 St, there's a Mayor's Forum sponsored by the Downtown Business Association. Judging by the response to past forums, you may want to arrive early to get a good seat. Unfortunately, we've run out of time for questions in our Ask the Candidate feature. We wouldn't have time to post replies before next Monday, which is Election Day. So here are the replies from candidates to: Question One - Question Two - Question Three - Bonus Question. Keep checking the response pages until Monday, since we're still receiving replies from candidates. Thanks to everyone who sent in questions, and to all candidates who took the time to craft such thoughtful and interesting responses. Too bad we didn't have time for more. October 13, 2004 Update The next live forums (fora?)
are tomorrow, October 14. The first is a Councillor Forum at Margaret
Parsons Theatre at Red Deer College, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. This
is sponsored by Red Deer College and the RDC Student's Association/Political
Science Society. Then, at 7 p.m. in the Snell Auditorium, here in
the Downtown Branch of RDPL, 4818-49 St, there's a Mayor's Forum sponsored
by the Downtown
Business Association . Judging by the response to past forums,
you may want to arrive early to get a good seat. Our last question - Question Four - will go out to candidates later today. October 12, 2004 Update I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving weekend. Election day is now less than a week away! This evening is the Mayor & Councillor Forum sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce , at the Black Knight Inn. The event begins at 7 p.m. Candidates are responding to our Ask the Candidate feature with thoughtful replies to the first three questions: Question One - Question Two - Question Three . Today we'll be adding the first replies to our Bonus Question : "What is your favourite book, movie or music album?" The Library will make sure that if we don't have these items in our collection, we'll order them. Now you can read, listen to or watch your favourite candidates' books, CDs and movies!
A number of people have asked about visits to the Election Forum portion of the Library's website. We've had about 20,000 page views since the Forum went up - close to 4,000 visitors. With increased interest as we moving into the last ten days of the campaign, we're receiving about 300 visitors each day. I will watch the logs and report on activity between now and Election Day. Incidentally, we normally have about 50,000 page views - 8 or 9,000 visitors - on the Library site each month. In September we had more than 10,000 visitors and 62,000 page views. Physical visits to our Downtown and Dawe branches are still significantly higher, though: about 50,000 per month. As to physical page views: it's hard to imagine how many pages of books are viewed by our customers every month in the Library and at home. Books are still important!
October 8, 2004 Update Candidates are responding to our Ask the Candidate feature with thoughtful replies to the first three questions: Question One - Question Two - Question Three. Here is a Bonus Question that goes out to all candidates - the Public Library Board, staff and customers (that's everyone in Red Deer!) want to know: "What is your favourite book, movie or music album?" The Library will make sure
that if we don't have these items in our collection, we'll order them.

CDs and movies! Our last question - Question Four - will go out to candidates after the Thanksgiving long weekend. October 7, 2004 Update Here is Question Three in our Ask the Candidate feature. Please note that we've sent this question out to all candidates, including those running for Mayor and School Board. I think everyone will have something interesting to say about these issues. We already have a number of replies posted. Here are candidates' replies to Question One and Question Two . Candidates: we apologize for some recent glitches with errant e-mails. If you have any changes to make in the information that appears on this site, no matter how small, let us know by sending an email to electionforum@rdpl.org . Please go to the Information for Candidates page for more information.
