Hello my name is Dale Wood,and as you know I am running for the City Council.There are many issues facing us at this time I am going to talk about a few that I think are important to us the citizens of Red Deer.

First I would like to talk about the Policing problem here.The Police are under staffed and funded.We need to put more money into the R.C.M.P.for staffing and community programs. There is a big Drug problem here Crack,Cocaine and methamphetamines,you can walk down allies and see used needles as well as in City Parks,you can see people smoking Crack sitting on city bus benches in many areas of town.I think this stems from being in the middle of the Drug Pipeline that runs from Calgary and Edmonton,it doesn't help that there is a Hell's Angels club house just outside of our City.Then there is the bar problems Downtown with Fighting and Property Damage.  With the coming of the HighSpeed Rail in between Calgary and Edmonton we will need better Policing in place before it is built,this is because people that live in these two cities that want to be in a small town will be moving here because they can commute in between now without the long drive both ways. So with that said I think it's time to see if the R.C.M.P is a viable idea for us or is it time to have a Red Deer City Police Force.

I believe that the Detox Centre is needed in Red Deer but I think that Downtown is the wrong place for it. Some of the suggestions I have heard are the Michener Centre because it is already set up for something like it and just on the edge of town where it is more peaceful.I don't think it is fair to put these people that are trying to clean up right in the middle of all their vices.

We also need more Youth Programs to help our Young Citizens deal with and stay away from Drugs,Alcohol and Crime.With all this I don't think it it a good idea to build a museum that will cost inexess of Twenty-Two Million Dollars there are many other things that our city needs more important things.The city needs to annex more land for Business and Residential Projects.Red Deer is the perfect place for new businesses to develop with us being centrally located.The Water Treatment Plant needs work too,the water tastes bad and every spring the water gets worse and stinks because of the winter run off this shouldn't happen in this city.

Another issue is the Crosswalks Downtown and at Gatez and 67th street the walk times are to fast, this is Dangerous for Senior's and Families especially in the winter when the roads are icy,this needs to be changed.

I am one of the few Candidates that rides the City Transit System and I know that the buses do not run long enough. Many times I take the bus and end up walking home because the buses quit running. There is a need to have more transfer points. Possibilities for the transfer points are at both malls and at the college.

You will not see any election signs put up for me because the vandals break the signs and I believe that they make our city look very bad. One thing that I would like to know is are all the Candidates that put up signs going to donate the wood that is use to support them to The Habitate For Humanity this would be a great deed for all to help out and make sure any wood that can be used will be and not wasted and put in the Landfill.
