City Council Candidate
"The main question that
people in our community have asked me is in regards to my motivation
for seeking a seat on your City Council.
My professional, educational and volunteer involvement in our community
has given me the experience necessary to lead the City of Red Deer with
integrity, vision and common sense. My recent employment in the political
arena has equipped me to be a strong, effective voice for the people
I hope to represent.
If entrusted with a seat on city council, I will serve our community
to the best of my ability and will maintain my commitment to principled
and accountable leadership. Please accept my sincere thanks for your
participation in the electoral process."
- Tara Veer, October 2004
Political Philosophy
* I believe that elected officials should be accountable to the grassroots
citizens that entrust them with positions of leadership.
* City Councilors should attend to the needs and concerns of the people
they represent, and make decisions that are informed by the best interests
of the community, not by a Councilor's personal or political agenda.
Taxation
* I am a fiscal conservative and am committed to respecting tax payers'
dollars at all times.
* I will work hard to ensure that home and business owners are not faced
with prohibitive tax increases to sustain the City of Red Deer's growth
and operating costs by encouraging responsible spending and facilitating
alternative revenues (i.e. maximize provincial and federal funding and
industrial and commercial land availability) .
Crime
* I believe in a twofold approach to crime control, mainly by maximizing
preventative measures and ensuring an effective response when crime
does occur by, for example, having sufficient R.C.M.P. staff to respond
to crime in our city.
Other Municipal Issues
I am concerned about a number of other municipal issues such as the
sewer gas that is venting off of 30th Avenue into neighboring residential
areas, the fire and ambulance service transfer slated for April of 2005,
general traffic & transit concerns, among other issues. If given
the opportunity, I would consult with major stakeholders on these issues
and work diligently towards effective, common sense solutions.
