HE’S IN IT FOR THE MONEY

I believe that any time Council gets public attention it’s about money: How to get money or how to spend money. Those are the times they get my attention, and rightly so after all it is my money they are spending. Council must be clear to us about financial plans. As the Executive Director of the Red Deer Food Bank since 1998, I am use to dealing with other people’s money. I must present a budget to a board of directors and then live with in that budget. I am accountable for the money spent. Seeking and applying for grants is a major part of my job at the Food Bank. Council needs your money. You need some one that has a track record of using other people’s money wisely. Fred Scaife is that person, HE’S IN IT FOR THE MONEY.

I have lived in and around Red Deer for over ten years. I have three daughters two of them, Katrina and Leanna, graduated High School here in Red Deer. My youngest daughter Rachael (13) is happy we live with in walking distance of the Collicutt Center. My wife Lori and I enjoy the many things our city has to offer, we love this community. Ralph and Dexter, our two Bassets, are thrilled to live in a city with a great “off leash” park. All in all, our whole family enjoys the fact that we live in a truly great city. Growing and vital, everything a family could want. From great sports facilities to an impressive arts and culture community. Parks and playgrounds, easy access transit, and fine schools. We are on the door step of the countries greatest outdoor play ground, we have it all.

All of this is not with out a price. The price, rapid growth has put a strain on many city services including, policing, emergency services and transit. These services must be maintained at realistic levels, again it costs money. Council needs to be practical in its approach to spending and needs to inform the people that pay the bills. We need a council that is clear about its goals and direction. Let’s not have huge cost over runs because we didn’t ask the right questions. We need a council that will explain the the why and how of spending money, not try to justify spending with political double speak. We need a council that is prepared to make the tough decisions and carry them through. We need councilors that have a record of financial accountability. Fred Scaife is the person we need because
