Candidate for trustee for the Red Deer Catholic School Board.

All of adult my life has been devoted to the education of our youth. I have taught at all levels for 4 different Catholic school boards in this province. Before leaving teaching I was the high school principal at Camille & Notre Dame for twenty years.  On a personal note, I am married to Eveline and we have 5 adult children. All of our children are graduates of the Red Deer Catholic school system.  We have been residents of this wonderful city for 26 years and both Eveline and I are active members of our parish. I am especially involved in the Knights of Columbus , locally and provincially. Also, I am a director for the Red Deer River Naturalists and for the Ecotrust Foundation for Alberta.  Presently, I am the bookstore manager for the Kerry Wood Nature Centre.

I want to be a Catholic school trustee because I want all children in this province to have the opportunity of being educated in a Christian atmosphere and I feel the best way I can assure this will happen is to be politically involved as a trustee.

What qualities will I bring to the board table?

• I am a team player: a positive person;  
• I understand & appreciate how boards work and how to bring about a decision and consensus;
• I understand the world of business and a balance sheet. My employment requires me to work harmoniously with a board and at the same time to operate a business that must make a profit;
• I always have cared for children; after retiring from a 35 year career as an educator, I continue to teach environmental studies to school students from the Kerry Wood Nature Centre;
• I am not afraid to ask the difficult questions;
• I pride myself as a person of integrity operating upon Christian values;
• I will be a vocal advocate for Catholic schools and education;
• I am convinced that the school's focus is not just to teach the curriculum ; but rather its greater purpose is give students a place in society. WE MUST RAISE CHILDREN NOT JUST THEIR TEST SCORES.
• And Finally; I want our religious education PROGRAMS TO BE ENHANCED AND AMPLIFIED; Children & parents cannot see theology in a school or a system but they can see and sense spirituality.
