October 18, 2004 is Election Day in Red Deer. Return to Election Forum - Catholic School Board Candidates
Candidate for Catholic School Board Trustee Bev Heisler
It has been my honour to serve as a Catholic school trustee for the past six years.
I am happily married to Owen, a surgeon here in Red Deer . We have two grown children. Both Sandra and Chris attended the Red Deer Catholic system with additional studies at Red Deer College . Our daughter is presently teaching at St. Francis Middle School . Our son is continuing his studies at the University of Alberta .
I am a member of St. Mary's Parish, active in the Eucharistic, Proclaiming and Hospitality ministries.
I worked for many years as a registered nurse, most recently with the PARTY program. I am now pursuing other interests. My commitment to the community is on-going with many past and present volunteer positions. Currently I am a member of the volunteer board of the David Thompson Health Region Foundation and the capital campaign committee of the Red Deer Hospice Society.
As a trustee, I have taken on many leadership roles over the past six years. I have been a past vice chairperson of the Alberta School Board Association Zone 4, and the provincial representative to work with AADAC on the advisory committee that developed the Youth Experience Survey.
As a Catholic school trustee our mission is not only to bring an excellent education to the kids of our division but to foster a learning environment that is permeated by the Gospel. Tradition, Scripture and the Sacraments must be the foundations of our system. In all that we do we must model Jesus and share his teachings. If re-elected I would be committed to seeing this mission followed and lived in all our schools.
Our system is known as a symbol of excellence throughout the province. I would work hard to do whatever is necessary to ensure our children get the best education possible, in a Christian environment, maintaining the high standards for which we have become known.
During the next three years our challenge will be finding classroom space to maintain the lower class sizes that we have achieved with the insertion of much needed finances to hire new teachers. I am committed to maintaining these lower class sizes while using our resources to the best of our abilities.
In conclusion, if re-elected, I will bring my strong commitment to both my faith and the children of our division. I will continue to bring my energy to support the educational needs and provide what is best for what will always remain our most important and precious gift - the children of this community.
I ask for your support on October 18 th .
"We have come to worship Him."
