Lion Plaza Branch

Due to the renovation of the Dawe Centre, the Dawe Branch of Red Deer Public Library was closed on Monday, March 31st until the Center reopens in early 2010.
The Lion Plaza Branch is a 2,000 square foot Express Branch of Public Library, and also the new home of the Adult Literacy Program. The new branch focuses on popular materials. There is a wealth of interesting and useful library materials for you to borrow: books, CDs, audio-books, DVDs, magazines, and much more. The branch also has two public Internet access terminals and free wireless access will be coming soon.
You can return RDPL materials at Lion Plaza, and pick up holds you've placed online or by phone. Give the new Lion Plaza Branch a try!
Red Deer Public Library's Dawe Branch (currently under construction - pictured to the left) is in North Red Deer's G.H. Dawe Centre, at 56 Holt Street. The Dawe Centre is an innovative multi-purpose community centre which includes a Catholic and Public school (still open), an arena and a swimming pool (both of which are currently closed), besides the public library branch. The Dawe Branch was about 7,000 square feet in size; the renovated Branch will be about 10,000 square feet.
The Public Library Board provides library service to the citizens of Red Deer at the Dawe branch. As well, it provides school library service for St. Patrick's School (K-9) under contract to the Red Deer Catholic Regional Division #39. This model of contracted school library service is very nearly unique in Canada, and has been the focus of interest in library and educational circles.
The Dawe library also houses the unique Computer Lending Program in which laptop computers can be signed out using a library membership. As well, the Dawe Library is the home to the Red Deer Community Literacy Network, including the Library's Family Literacy Projects (currently housed at RDPL's Downtown Branch,) and the Red Deer Public Library Adult Literacy Program (now at the Lion Plaza Branch).
