Black and White Horror Films

  1. Cat People
    Irena Dubrovna, a stunning and mysterious Serbian-born fashion artist living in New York City, falls in love with and marries an American, Oliver Reed.  Their marriage suffers though, as Irena believes that she suffers from a curse - whenever she is aroused, she turns into a panther and kills.

  2. Dracula: the legacy collection
    Bela Lugosi brings the role of Dracula to life in the 1931 film, "Dracula", directed by Todd Browning.  For more of Dracula, this collection includes "Dracula's Daughter" as released in 1936, and "Son of Dracula" as released in 1943.

  3. Frankenstein: the legacy collection
    This collection includes two classic black and white films.  "Frankenstein" was directed by James Whale, with Colin Clive cast as Frankenstein and Boris Karloff cast as Frankenstein's monster.  These two are recast in "The Bride of Frankenstein" as directed by James Whale with Elsa Lanchester playing the part of the reanimated bride.

  4. The Hands of Orlac
    This is a digitally restored silent film with musical score and intertitles.  It follows the disintegration of Paul Orlac, a concert pianist whose hands are amputated after a train crash, and replaced with the hands of an executed murderer.  When Orlac's father is murdered by the dead man's hands, Orlac begins a descent toward madness.

  5. Isle of the Dead
    Boris Karloff stars in this film set on a Greek isle during the First Balkan War.  While his troop are burying their dead, General Pherides is quarantined on the Isle of the Dead and trapped with strangers, who begin to die one by one.

  6. King Kong
    This film ends in the fateful finale atop the Empire State Building with an immense gorilla holding Fay Wray in his fist.  Though released as a black and white film in 1933, the film continues to attract a following.

  7. The Mummy: the legacy collection
    This collection begins with "The Mummy" as released in 1932 and follows with four sequels released from 1940 to 1944.  "The Mummy" stars Boris Karloff as Im-Ho-Tep, the Egyptian priest who was buried alive for sacrilege.  A field expedition in 1921 unearths the mummified remains of Im-Ho-Tep and a careless reading of the Scroll of Thoth brings the dead back to life.

  8. The Thing from Another World
    A team of scientists, investigating a magnetic disturbance near the North Pole, discovers a disc-shaped object and some sort of being, frozen beneath the ice.  This 1951 film stars James Arness as the "Thing".

  9. I Walked with a Zombie
    A young Canadian nurse comes to the West Indies to care for the wife of a plantation manager who suffers from a strange catatonic condition.  Searching for a cure for her patient, the nurse encounters local voodoo practices.  This film, produced by Val Lewton, was released as a motion picture in 1943.

  10. The Wolf Man: the legacy collection
    The title film in this collection stars Lon Chaney Jr. as a man who is attacked by a werewolf.  He finds to his horror that he now becomes one himself.  This collection of werewolf films includes the title film, "The Wolf Man", as it was released in 1941; "Werewolf of London" as released in 1935; and "She-Wolf of London", as released in 1946.
