Great Expectations

Homebound Reader's Service

Like to read but cannot come to the Library? We will come to you!
RDPL's Homebound Reader's Service

A free, personalized selection and home delivery service for Library members who cannot visit us due to age, illness or disability.
Adult Services staff, along with friendly volunteers, will qualify and register you for this program.

Once your reading interests are determined, volunteers will visit once every three weeks with a bag full of great selection of library materials. Fiction, nonfiction, audiobooks and magazines are all available for home delivery.

Would you like to volunteer with the Homebound Readers' Service?

As a volunteer you would be expected to visit your reader approximately once every three weeks. The entire visit would take about 2-3 hours. You would pick up new books at the library, take them to your homebound reader, then return the old books to the library. You would be responsible for renewing books when required and keeping a book journal for the reader.

ThisĀ is an invaluable service to people who love to read but have difficulty getting out on their own.

Because our homebound readers are very vulnerable, we require all volunteers to fill out an application form, provide references and have a police check done (at no expense).
