Fiction
Looking for a good mystery story, the latest bestseller or a SciFi classic? Check out our Fiction Collection located on level 2, and as soon as you walk in the door at the Dawe Branch. Our extensive novel collection is divided into the following genres: Mystery, Science Fiction & Fantasy, Western, Romance and General Fiction which covers a wide range of styles and thematic interests. You’ll also find the “Classics” and fiction by Canadian writers well represented on our shelves. At the Dawe Branch the genres are all shelved together but you can see the genre at a glance with our handy genre stickers on the book spines.
Fiction books are available in hardcover and mass market paperback formats.
On level 2 you will also find an extensive collection of Fiction titles in Large Print. We stock most of the bestsellers and popular authors in the easier to read large print format. The Large Print collection also includes a number of popular Nonfiction titles. There are currently no Large Print books at the Dawe Branch, but you can order the downtown titles to the branch by placing holds online or having staff assist you.
International Collection
As part of a provincial consortium we are able to provide a number of books in other languages at the main branch. The International Collection is located on level 2 at the Main Branch, and near the Literacy Offices at the Dawe Branch.
Nonfiction
Planning a trip? Trying to figure out your teenager? Wondering how to make preserves? Our Nonfiction collection (level 4 at the Main Branch, and next to the Adult Fiction at the Dawe Branch) is designed to help you with all your “how to” questions as well as meet your recreational reading interests in such popular subject areas as biography, true crime, self-help and inspiration. Hobbyists regularly check out new titles in their area of leisure interest and we try to keep up with all the trends in cooking, interior design, home improvement and fashion. Health and fitness books are extremely popular and provide much needed background information on common medical problems.
Some of our nonfiction titles are classed as Reference Books which are designed to help you with complicated or specialized research needs in areas ranging from auto repair, education, careers and consumer information to genealogical research, Canadian history and new findings in science and technology. There is no specific reference collection at the Dawe Branch.
