Notice to all Central Alberta Artists Major Art Purchase!! Red Deer Public Library plans to buy approximately 75 unframed pieces of original 2D art for its Art Lending program this fall. They will form a part of the “Healing and Wholeness” collection, many of which will be sent to the Red Deer Regional Hospital on a rotating long-term loan basis. Subjects and Media: Jurors will be asked to select works that are of high quality and that would appeal to and uplift individuals who are ill or otherwise under the weather. (In a recent pilot project, many individuals in hospital selected art that somehow reminded them of happy times in their own life or their youth.) We are looking for a wide variety of subjects, themes, and artistic techniques. The preference is for works in colour as the Library’s Art Lending collection already contains many black and white images. The Library expects to select a variety of genres including colourful and appealing abstracts, traditional rural and contemporary urban scenes, still lifes, and landscapes, as well as images of animals, humans, birds, etc. Mixed media pieces, watercolours, photographs, and drawings will all be considered. Pieces must fit behind glass in a 12"X16", 16"X20", 18"X24" or 24"X 30" frame. Note: We are hoping to feature a variety of artists, and will therefore likely select no more than 6 to 8 pieces by any single artist. We cannot guarantee that we will select pieces from everyone who submits. Payment: The maximum price per piece is $250 not including GST. (The Library will consider offering a tax receipt for the balance if the piece is worth more.) Submission Process: Please deliver up to twelve submissions to the Snell Auditorium (downstairs in the downtown Library) on Wednesday, November 30 from 3:00 to 8:00 pm. You will find submission forms on the Public Library’s web site at Please return to the Snell Auditorium on Saturday, December 3 between 9:30 am and noon to complete the sale and/or pick unpurchased pieces. |
